The Girl Behind the Red Rope by Ted Dekker and Rachelle Dekker: a Review

img_5030

I needed a good book after the disappointment of Whisper Man. I wanted to be scared. I wanted to not be able to sleep. Ted Dekker is my go to when I don’t want to sleep at night because I’m too scared. Trying to pay my husband off to sleep with the lights on and sleep by our bedroom window.

This is a great book. I love Ted Dekker and he is one of my favorite authors. He’s easily in the top 10. This book is about a cult that believes something that’s not real at all and one girls seeks out the truth.

The book is a little bumpy since it is co-authored but it does hit its own stride.

The Words Between Us by Erin Bartels: A Review

So let’s first talk about how gorgeous this cover is! The books! That’s what really caught my eye wimg_5029ith this book. I know you’re not really suppose to judge a book by the cover but this one I may have.

So I thought this book was going to be a little romance but it’s really not. It’s more romance and mystery. Robin is determined not to have her past following her. She has her books, bookstore and poems.

Peter is a boy from her past. The one who she first met when she moved in with relative after a family scandal had her going into hiding. He lost his mother to an aneurysm. He let her borrow his book but when she was done, he would let her read/borrow more.

This book is just gorgeous inside and out and Erin Bartels creates a beautiful world that you want to go back to and live in. The book references are everywhere too! Gah I loved this book.

5 stars.

You Belong to Me by Tami Faris: A Review

When I read this book’s description, I knew that it was for me! I love historic preservation and everything about Heritage and families and such. The spine of this book is also to die for! It’s so gorgeous!

You meet Hannah and Luke. Hannah loves Luke and does everything in her power to make him stay and to make sure that he doesn’t know that she is meddling in his life. Luke loves Hannah and always has felt that he doesn’t belong. He feels like a part of him is missing since his father died when he was 5 years old and he was in the foster system for many years.

You also meet Thomas and Janie. Thomas is Hannah’s brother and he loves Janie. Janie is heartbroken over Thomas breaking up with her and finds that he has easily moved on after their break up once she returns home from a summer overseas.

One thing Hannah loves almost more than Luke is her hometown of Heritage. She wants to prove to the town that she is not her mother and that she can bring life back to her hometown by entering a contest. That contest is to help beautify the downtown. Hannah is a bit of a klutz and more things happen to her than you would think during this project.

Can Hannah put aside her love of fixing things and proving herself to really put forth a relationship with Luke? Can Hannah save her town from the developers that are breathing down her neck to move in and modernize her quiet little hometown? Will Luke find what he is missing and looking for a place to belong and a family to love him? What will happen to Thomas and Janie?

I love that there are multiple stores intermixed in with the main story line and I want more and I can’t wait for the next book to come out! There is a sneak peak in this book for the second one and it has you wanting it today!

4 stars.

As the Light Fades by Catherine West: A Review

Book Blurb:

Sometimes we’re placed in the strangest of circumstances for the most important reasons.

After her carefully constructed life crumbles, Liz Carlisle finds herself back on Nantucket, picking up the pieces. With the family estate under renovations, the solitude she craves seems out of reach.

Matthew Stone intends to steer clear of his new tenant. She’s carrying a load of baggage, but as long as she pays the rent, he’ll let her be. He’s got enough to deal with caring for his wayward niece, Mia.

Liz doesn’t have time for teenagers and her track record with men is abysmal, but an unlikely friendship forms between the three.

When her former boyfriend is charged with assault, Liz is called to testify against him. But he knows the darkest secrets of her life—secrets she’d hoped to keep buried forever, and he’s ready to reveal them. Telling the truth is the right thing to do, but it may cost her everything she’s worked so hard for, and all she’s come to love.

My Opinion:

This book was my first Catherine West book and now I want to go an read more! The book was a nice page turner and kept me very interested in it. Although there are heavy topics in this book, you aren’t weighed down by any of it. It deals with Alzheimer’s, trust issues, abuse and other things. This book is also a fast read and I devoured. I loved the characters and they’ll stick with me for awhile.

Love on the Beach - Kerry EvelynAbout Love on the Beach

Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Goodreads

After quitting her job at a high-profile magazine in Boston, idealistic journalist Shelby Porter retreats to her hometown of Crane’s Cove, Maine, to regroup and refocus. As the pastor’s daughter, she’s welcomed back with open arms and opportunities to serve. However, the solace and support from the townspeople isn’t enough to soften painful memories or bring her closer to her goals. Shelby’s plans run up against another obstacle when the new guy in town walks into her life. Despite their connection, she resolves to not let love get in the way of fulfilling her purpose.

Tragedy drives Detective Damon Saunders from his job in Atlanta to the tiny resort town. Wanting to escape the ugliness of the big city, he now patrols the peaceful streets of the seaside community. The hardest part of his new role is earning the trust of the locals—especially Shelby. He’s drawn to her quiet strength and desire to help people, but she has plans that’ll take her far away from the place where he’s trying to plant new roots. Maybe falling for her will complicate his life, but he’s willing to take that chance.

Shelby denies her growing feelings for Damon, but when her four-year-old nephew is in danger, he’s the only one who can help. Can Damon overcome the shadows of his past to save a child and win her—and the town’s—heart?

My Opinion

I couldn’t put this book down! It was so good. When I signed up for this tour, I didn’t realize that it was apart of a series so I’m going to have to go back and read the others. The characters are very well developed and you can tell that Kerry writes with passion.

Although I did have a beef with Shelby since she was giving off so many mixed signals to Damon. I think I want to go find Crane’s Cove, Maine and spend some time there. 🙂

4 stars!

Wooing Cadie McCaffrey by Bethany Turner: a review

“Sweet Home Alabama and The Proposal hasn’t given him much to work with. What was he supposed to do? Try and get them struck by lightning? Pretend he was Canadian and beg her to marry him so he didn’t get deported? She’s probably by him a Mountie hat and a one-way ticket to Niagara Falls.”

I absolutely loved Cadie McCaffrey!!! Bethany Turner takes inspirational fiction to another level. I loved how Bethany Turner took a situation between Cadie and Will and didn’t turn it into a omg I can’t believe she wrote that in the book and made it apart of the story line but not too overpowering.

Will loves Cadie and would do anything for her. Until she doesn’t want him anymore. Will works to get Cadie back because he wants to spend the rest of his life with her.

On the advice on Cadie’s best friend, Will and his friends watch every romantic comedy to give Will a ton of ideas to get Cadie back. He uses them but Cadie smells a rat and doesn’t want to fall for any of his wooing.

Can all of Will’s chick flick watching get his girl back and they live happily ever after? You’ll just have to read it to find out!!!

When We Left Cuba by Chanel Cleeton :review

You laugh, you cry and you feel for Beatriz. You learn about her espionage days and receive a history lesson along the way.

I love how Chanel weaves in actual events that were happening during that time and how the Perez family were integrating into American culture. I fell in love with the Perez family in Next Year in Havana and loved When We Left Cuba one can only hope that Chanel will continue to let us into the lives of the Perez Family.

Like I said your heart will break for Beatriz as she tries to figure out who she is and you will have to wait to read to see if she receives her happy ending.

#NSFW Book Tour Wrap up

Thank you BookSparks for these lovely books! Also thank you for having me on your #nsfw book tour!!!!

Fetish Girl: a memoir of sex, domination, and motherhood by Bella LaVey

Fetish Girl is not for the faint of heart and it intrigued me although I did have a hard time reading this book. It’s just not my cup of tea of what I usually read. Sure I’ve read 50 Shades but I didn’t know anything about BDSM until I read 50 Shades. It’s so much more than BDSM, erotic wrestling and stripping. It’s a story of survival. It’s a story of a woman who does what she needs to do to survive in this world.

I give it 3.5 stars.

The Spiritual Vixen’s guide to an unapologetic life by Maureen Muldoon

I really didn’t know what to think of this book because of the cover. I sometimes judge the book by its cover. I thought the book was going to be saucy and sexy. The cover really didn’t match the story. Its really a story of divorce and getting away for a horrible life. Rising from the ashes is the theme of this book.

I give it 3.5 stars.

Season of Wonder by RaeAnne Thayne

Season of Wonder was lacking for me. I really hoped it was going to pick up but it didn’t. I haven’t read any of the other Haven Point novels and probably won’t read them.

The characters were under developed just a little bit. I liked then don’t get me wrong they’re good but I was just left not being able to connect to the story.

Dani is trying to start a new life for her and her two daughters. To leave behind her past that she can’t seem to shake. Ruben is her next door neighbor and the son of her boss. Through a series of events, Ruben slowly intertwines himself into Dani and her daughters lives even though Dani continues to try and pull herself away.

My rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

The Dimarco Series by Jennifer Hanks

Oh my gosh! I just found my new obsession. So I ran across Lucy, Sydney, Gianna, and Elaina on NetGalley and immediately fell in love with their covers. I let them sit in my kindle app for a little bit and then I opened them when I needed to fall away from the world. Like literally. My anxiety is extremely bad right now and I just don’t want to function.

I read them all in two days and even got through one of The Elite Securities series books. OMG! I knew I had to see if there were more out there. Then I found Kate. I read Kate in one day. Oh, my heart I need more. I feel so invested in this family that I can’t help myself but hope that the author writes really fast to get Grace and Ben’s stories written. I also saw on her website that she was doing a novella for Jax.

So, in the beginning, you meet the Dimarco brothers. There are seven of them with one sister. They are a big Italian family that once you’re in the family there is no way to leave. I laughed I cried and I felt like they were all my family.

In Lucyyou meet Christian and Lucy and follow their story of how they fell in love. Can Chris keep Lucy from running away from her problems?

In Sydney, you get to know Cameron the one brother you do not meet in Lucy because he’s undercover and no one knew where he was. Through lies and betrayals, Sydney and Cam fall in love and work through their battles.

In Giannayou meet Gia and Lexi and Gia’s search for that man that she had a one night stand with just so her little girl will know her daddy. After confronting the wrong brother, Brody takes to them and never lets them go.

In ElainaLanie, the girl next door and her dog Beasley, who helps Jake come out of his sea of guilt and Jake does everything in his power to protect her but can he really?

Then we have Kate, Luke survived being gunned down for his involvement in a case that could lead him to lose everything. Kate is a single mom who is just trying to keep her head about water and make the best life for her son Andy. For Kate and Andy the unthinkable happens they are adopted by the Dimarco family and how much they knew that she needed them, the added bonus was Luke. Will Luke give up everything on the police force to have a life with Kate and Andy or will he lose everything?

I love everything about the Dimarco family and feel like I know them. The books give you get background stories of all.

All 5 are 4 out of 5 stars!!!
